Should I order a 120V or 240V Hand Dryer?

Customers ask us this question all of the time. They want to know if the hand dryer will work better on one voltage or the other. Does the decision to go with 120 or 240 volts affect operating costs? Let's find out.

First of all, the EXTREMEAIR series hand dryers feature universal voltage. The hand dryer will automatically configure itself to any standard voltage between 100 to 240 volts, 50 or 60Hz. Traditional hand dryers have to be ordered for a specific voltage. Connecting to the wrong voltage can damage the dryer.

Our hand dryers work equally well at 120 or 240 volts. So, in terms of dryer performance, it doesn't matter. What does matter is energy efficiency. Traditional hand dryers require as much as 2,300 watts of electrical power. They will operate slightly more efficient at 240V by reducing "line losses". High speed, energy efficient dryers such as the EXTREMEAIR use 1/3 of the electricity. Therefore, line losses are negligible. We recommend connecting it to the most convenient voltage available.

Standby power is another consideration that is often overlooked. This is the amount of power drawn by electrical devices when they are turned off. Some hand dryers draw over 5 watts of electrical power while not running. The EXTREMEAIR draws less than 1 watt of standby power. This saves about $5 per year in electricity per hand dryer.
